doormat

  • Shake out the majority of debris over grass or another outdoor area.²
Vacuum the mat with the brush attachment to remove any remaining dust.¹
Sprinkle some baking soda over the mat to clean and deodorize it.³
Use a broom or scrub brush to rub the baking soda into the mat fibers.³
Leave the baking soda on the mat to be removed during the next rain or use a hose to rinse it off.¹
If you used water to clean the mat, prop it against a wall or hang it out to dry before laying it down again so that water will not get trapped underneath.²
Sweep the area where the doormat usually sits before returning it.

An easy way to clean a doormat is to hang it on a clothesline during a thunderstorm. The rain and wind should remove most of the dust and debris.²

If your mat is carpeted, you can use a carpet or upholstery shampoo to clean it

  • Front door mats tend to be made of tough fibres, completely unsuitable for going into the washing machine.

option 1 –
Use a vacuum cleaner with the attachement to get up loose debris
then use a soapy solution with a stiff scrubbing brush to scrub and wash the mat
rinse it then by pouring clean water over it, then either hang it on the washing line or leave in the sun to dry.

option 2 –
Beat the door mat against a hard surface such as an outdoor wall to get most of the loose dirt off.
using a soapy solution (such as washing up liquid in warm water)
use a scrubbing brush to get as much of the dirt out as you can
One way of rinsing the soapy solution off is to use a garden hose if one is handy
Finish by leaving the mat outdoors. on a warm and dry day, to dry.
